Desktop viewer: stockpile volumes, tonnes and their history

Outline a pile or import every toe, turn volumes into tonnes, write a PDF report, follow the yard over three surveys, and choose the base that gives the right volume.

The coal and iron-ore yard of the port of Rotterdam, airborne LiDAR of 2016, 2020 and 2023 (AHN via GeoTiles, TU Delft — AHN3 public domain, AHN5 CC BY Het Waterschapshuis; aerial photos Beeldmateriaal Nederland, CC BY 4.0), and a gravel yard at Hüntwangen whose floor is known (swissSURFACE3D 2024, SWISSIMAGE 2025, © swisstopo): there the fixed level comes within 0.2 % of the true volume.

Measure the piles

  1. In Tools, Stockpiles, click Outline a pile and click around its toe, where it meets the ground; a right-click closes it and the volume appears.
  2. Import toes… brings every outline drawn elsewhere (GeoJSON, Shapefile, KML or DXF); type the density to get tonnes, and Report… writes a PDF with each pile.

Over time, and the right base

  1. In Timeline, add the earlier surveys: Earlier and Later move between them, Compare with earlier colours what came and went, and Volume history… writes the inventory over time.
  2. Toe plane follows the ground along the outline; Lowest toe suits a pile in a bay; Fixed level is for a floor of known elevation.
