Mining: find every plane and group the sets

Find planes maps every planar face of the cloud; the poles are grouped into joint sets on the stereonet, each with its mean plane and Fisher K.

Rock slope IV-4, captured by drone photogrammetry for "Automatic Planar Discontinuity Identification with Comprehensive Error Quantification" (Han et al., Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering, 2025). Data: Zenodo 16934958, CC BY 4.0.

Find planes

  1. Find planes cuts the cloud into small patches, reads each one's orientation (on the graphics card when there is one) and joins the patches that lie on the same face.

The sets

  1. The sets follow at once, and the cloud is coloured by set. The stereonet (Schmidt, lower hemisphere) shows every pole weighted by its face's area, the density, and each set's mean plane.
  2. If you know how many sets there are, or want them tighter, set the number or the width and group again.

Compare

  1. Colour the cloud switches between its own colours and the sets, to check them against the rock.

The Mining add-on is sold apart from the Finitor Desktop licence and installs itself at sign-in, with no reinstall. Measuring planes with the compass is free.
