Mining: bench compliance over the whole pit

Every face and berm of the pit against the design angle and the minimum berm, coloured and counted; then the design compared bench by bench.

The Mormont limestone quarry (Eclépens, Switzerland), airborne LiDAR of the national survey swissSURFACE3D 2019, coloured with the SWISSIMAGE 2020 orthophoto. Data © swisstopo. Faces against 70° ±5°, berms of at least 8 m: mean face 69.2°. The design is a demonstration made for this video, not the operator's.

The limits

  1. Read benches once on the ground surface (bare earth); Min. height leaves out steps lower than a bench.
  2. Set the design face angle, its tolerance and the minimum berm width, then Check compliance.

The result

  1. Faces: green within the tolerance, red steeper, amber flatter. Berms: blue wide enough, pink narrower. The status gives the share of each and the means.
  2. With a design surface open, Design by bench gives, for each bench height, the volume still to dig and over-dug.

Faces and berms are measured only between a crest and a toe, so fields and forest outside the pit are not coloured. Part of the Mining add-on.
