# Mining: compare the pit with its design

> The design surface (DXF of triangles or GeoTIFF) against the surveyed ground: still to dig, over-dug and on design, with volumes.

## The design

1. The tolerance says how close to the design counts as on design (30 cm here).
2. Design surface… opens the design: a DXF of 3D faces as Vulcan, Deswik, Surpac or Civil 3D export it, or a GeoTIFF elevation model, in the survey's coordinates.

## The result

1. Red is still to dig (the ground is above the design), blue was dug past it, green is on design, each with its volume and the share of the surface within tolerance.

A design built on another grid than the survey's shows apparent differences on steep faces: compare with a tolerance that fits the design's resolution.
